Description

The Estacada School District is seeking a 1.0fte Elementary Speech Language Pathologist, Autism and Social/Emotional support, (district wide) for the 2018/2019 school year.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • As set by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission
  • License from Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology or an educator license with a communications disorders or speech impaired endorsement issued by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission  (TSPC)
  • Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Directors or the Superintendent may find acceptable.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of clinical competence (ASHA).
  • Previous experience working as Speech Language Pathologist in a school setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

May include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Observe, screen and evaluate students to determine the current level of performance to determine eligibility for services; prepare evaluation reports and participate in drafting individual education program (IEP) goals and objectives.
  • Diagnose and identify students with articulation, voice, fluency (stuttering) and/or language delays and disorders using standardized, norm-referenced test instruments including determining type and severity of the disorder.
  • Develop speech and language treatment plans including determining goals, objectives, methods, materials, frequency, duration, and modifications to regular classroom activities.
  • Provide direct therapy and instruction to students including analyzing, reviewing, and revising student progress; communicating with teachers and parents, and preparing the classroom for instruction.
  • Design, implement, and develop activities and original instructional aides which are relevant, enhance the effectiveness of teaching, and address treatment plans including determining an appropriate number of activities, scheduling activities, and making group and individual behavior plans.
  • Provide ideas and consult with teachers and parents regarding speech and language development and disorders including determining the needs of the child.
  • Develop, select and implement direct, indirect and consultative services based on individual assessment results and planning intervention goals.
  • Plan, develop and complete Individualized Education Plans according to District and State guidelines and policies.
  • Provide appropriate communication intervention strategies; monitor the effectiveness of interventions, coordinates or assist in the coordination of necessary resources to provide services to students; recommend program adjustments and enhancements as necessary.
  • Develop a variety of teaching and instructional strategies including maintaining current knowledge of standards and practices in the field by consulting with books, colleagues, and conferences.
  • Establish and maintain intervention schedules for the schools and children with IEP and service plans.
  • Ensure each student has necessary evaluation records in his / her permanent file.
  • Furnish the principal with student schedules listing service times and amounts.
  • Supply progress reports to school personnel and parents of students as necessary and as requested per IEP.
  • Complete appropriate reports for local, state, federal, and educational agencies.
  • Refer  students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community agencies.
  • Provides support to classroom teams to meet the need of students experiencing autism and students with lagging social/emotional skills.
  • Specialist may include behavioral support services, assessment, instructional and environmental configuration of special education settings and general education classrooms.
  • The specialist builds capacity for educators to use and implement evidence based behavior support and intervention strategies for students experiencing autism and students who demonstrate lagging social/emotional skills.
  • The specialist will provide professional development activities for staff in Autism Spectrum Disorder and evidence based instructional techniques and behavioral techniques.
  • Complies with all District procedures, timelines, directives, and rules relating to assignment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISES: Such personnel as may be assigned.
